Course of the Loiter Au / Füsinger Au |
The Loiter Au (also Füsinger Au ), (Danish: Løjt Å / Fysing Å ) is a river in the fishing landscape in Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein ( Germany ). At the source of the river, the Kreuzau in Brebelholz, the Oxbek and the Wellspanger Au (also Boholzer Au) flow together. The river crosses the villages of Loit and Scholderup , where there are moorings for canoeists. It flows for about 18 kilometers at Winningmay in the small width of the loop .
history
The river was created during the last ice age by meltwater as a tributary of a stream that flowed towards the North Sea at that time .
When the first people came to fishing , they settled on the Loiter Au / Füsinger Au. At that time the water was used for washing and fishing was carried out. In addition, the river served as a trade route during the Viking Age to get into the interior of fishing .
Loiter Au / Füsinger Au as a border river
The river already separated the former Harden Schliesharde (also: Schleiharde ) and Struxdorfharde from each other. Today it is considered the border river between Brebel , Loit and Taarstedt to Twedt . He also separates the offices of Süderbrarup and Südangeln from one another.
Others
The river has different names depending on the area. In the communities of Brebel , Twedt , Loit and Taarstedt it is called Loiter Au . In Schaalby it is called Füsinger Au .
The place name of the village Loit on the river is derived from the old Danish word lögh ("water"), which is related to the Loiter Au.
