Brebel was first mentioned in 1231 as Brethæbøl . The place name is a combination of Danish. bred for broad and -bøl for settlement, so the meaning is roughly broad settlement .
On March 1, 2018, the previously independent community of Brebel was incorporated into Süderbrarup.
politics
Of the nine seats in the last local council had Wählergemeinschaft KWB since the local elections in 2013 six seats, the voter community BfB three. The last mayor was Wolfhard Kutz (KWB).
coat of arms
Blazon : "In gold below between two blue wavy bars a blue wavy thread, above a green four-leaf clover with an applied golden crosshair as leaf veins".
The four- leaf clover in the Brebel coat of arms reflects the four districts of Brebelholz, Groß Brebel, Klein Brebel and Loitstraße. In its simplicity, it also exudes the harmony between the districts. The applied crosshair stands for the intersection in the center of the village, made up of the state and federal roads. This "long-distance traffic junction" is important for the economic development of Brebel. At the same time, it expresses the openness of the population in all directions. The corrugated beams in the base of the shield represent the watercourses flowing through and delimiting the local area.
economy
Brebel is changing from an agricultural place to a place of residence.
