Boy Lornsen
Boy Lornsen (born August 7, 1922 in Keitum on Sylt ; † July 26, 1995 there ) was a German sculptor and writer .
Life
Boy Lornsen was born as the son of a captain in Keitum on Sylt. After graduating from high school in 1941, he did military service until 1945. After the end of the Second World War , he initially retrained as a carpenter. The former aviator and radio operator Lornsen then enrolled at the State Art School in Hanover for the subject of plastic and completed an apprenticeship as a master stonemason and stone sculptor . In this profession he was u. a. in his workshop in the Wurtleutetweute in Brunsbüttel , active until the early 1970s.
In 1967 he published his first children's book about an inventive little boy who helps a robot with his schoolwork. Robbi, Tobbi and the Fliewatüüt was a great success and made it onto the shortlist of the German Youth Book Prize in 1968 . The book was in 1972 consuming the WDR filmed by puppets on the one in real environments, large scenes or by blue screen technology projected to model landscapes. Since then, Lornsen has worked as a freelance writer . He wrote poems , children's, youth and picture books as well as novels primarily for a younger audience . He also endeavored to bring events and characters from history, such as the pirate Klaus Störtebeker , closer to young readers with historical youth novels , without false pathos or glorifications.
Lornsen's works have been translated into numerous languages (including Greek , Japanese and Norwegian ) and have also enjoyed great success abroad. The multiple award-winning author received the Japanese School Librarian Award in 1976 . In addition, he also worked as a writer for radio and television (including for Sesame Street ). In addition to some North German stories, he has written three books in Low German .
Lornsen has been a member of the German PEN since 1981. He died on July 26, 1995 in his home town of Keitum on the North Sea island of Sylt.
His son Dirk Lornsen is also an author for children and young people.

- Several schools were named after him:
- Since 1997 the primary school in the community of Schaalby in Schleswig-Holstein has been called Boy Lornsen Primary School after him ; after the merger with other school locations in 2012, the name was changed to Boy-Lornsen-Schule Südangeln .
- Since 2002 the elementary school in his hometown Keitum was called Boy-Lornsen-Grundschule ; after its closure in 2008, the name was transferred to the primary school in Tinnum .
- In 2004 the North Primary School in Brunsbüttel was renamed Boy-Lornsen Primary School.

- The youth novel Feuer im Nacken , or The Arsonist of Tarrafal , was filmed in 1977 under the direction of Gustav Ehmck with the title Fire at Midnight .
- In 2016 the movie Robbi, Tobbi and the Fliewatüüt was released. The director took Wolfgang Groos .
Trivia
The so-called "Kraken-Oracle" Paul , who correctly predicted the outcome of a number of European Championship and World Cup matches for the German national football team from 2008 to 2010 with great media coverage, was named after Boy Lornsen's poem The Octopus Paul Octopus .
