Gustav Ehmck

Gustav Ehmck (born December 1, 1937 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a German film director , screenwriter and film producer .

After secondary school, he trained as a photographer and actor in Munich . In 1959 he moved to Düsseldorf . From 1962 he made short films and specialized in children's and youth subjects.

In 1967 he founded his own production company Ehmck-Film. His first full-length work followed with Trace of a Girl , for which he received the Gold Film for Best Young Director in 1968 . He then directed several films that dealt with the problems of young people in Germany.

But it was only his film adaptation of Otfried Preußler 's children's book Der Räuber Hotzenplotz with Gert Fröbe in the title role that met with greater public response. As with other works by Ehmck, the film criticism was reserved and criticized the emphatically naive way of representation. His realistic, pessimistic contemporary film My Uncle Theodor or How to Earn A Lot of Money in Sleep , which again revolved around the problems of young people, received little attention.

After a long break, Ehmck resumed directing in 1988 with A Swiss called Nötzli , but after that he only appeared rarely.
