Bibi Blocksberg

Bibi Blocksberg and the Secret of the Blue Owls is a German feature film from 2004. Elfie Donnelly wrote the script , who also prepared the material for a book of the same name.

Sidonie von Krosigk plays the title role, as in the first Bibi Blocksberg film , the most successful German film from 2002.

A separate spin-off series was created from the character of Elea Eluanda in the radio play series Bibi Blocksberg .

action

Bibi Blocksberg spent her time in school more with witchcraft than mathematics . Their grades look accordingly. This prompts her parents, Barbara and Bernhard Blocksberg, to send Bibi to the Altenberg Castle boarding school.

Since Bibi is at the beginning of her puberty , she protests violently against these plans. All protest is of no use, and Bibi fears that she will have to spend many boring weeks in boarding school.

But Bibi soon made two new friends at the boarding school: David, who fell in love with her, and Elea Mischnick, who lost her parents in an accident and has been paraplegic ever since . Bibi would like to help Elea, but witchcrafts are also limited. From the head witch Walpurgia, Bibi learns that there used to be the blue comforting owls. The magical owl dust could be enough to make Elea walk again. And of all things , the remains of the blue owls are said to be in a labyrinth under Altenberg Castle .

Unfortunately, Bibi and Elea are not the only ones looking for the blue owls. Because the witch Rabia was able to free herself from the horror moor, to which she was banished for 5 years after the acts against Bibi (see the first film Bibi Blocksberg ), and is still out for revenge on the Blocksbergs. She watches Bibi and quickly discovers her plans. Since the owl dust has enormous magical powers , Rabia wants to own it too. School director Quirin Barthels is looking for the Lonabaremir puzzle, which ultimately represents the access to the owl dust, so he has the same goal.

An irony of fate is that the blue owls can only be found by solving an intricate mathematical puzzle . But since Elea is very good at maths and Bibi studied maths hard at boarding school, the two of them can solve the riddle. So Elea can use the magical owl dust, which cannot cure her, but gives her consolation by letting a small owl statue come to life and supporting it as a companion. Rabia is deprived of all witchcraft power by the witch council and she now lives as a normal old woman.

Awards

At the "22. Chicago International Children's Film Festival "the film was named" Best Feature Film ".

Film music

The cover story by Enjott Schneider is very reminiscent of the music from the Harry Potter films by John Williams .

As in the first Bibi Blocksberg movie, there are again short musical-style dance and singing scenes.

additional

  • A large part of the film was shot on the premises of the Pforta State School . The church of the former monastery was used for the scenes in the room of the blue owls. Because of the pentagram , which had been formed for the scene in the fourth of the church, there were heated discussions between the school management and the pastor and religion teacher of the school and the film team.
  • An image appears in the film that shows Hauke Diekamp as Arkadia's friend Jona.
  • The film contains further allusions to Harry Potter. For example, the light in a washroom flickers when Rabia approaches, as if a dementor was approaching .

Reviews

“Turbulent and eventful sequel to“ Bibi Blocksberg ”(2001/02) as an exciting and amusing adventure and fantasy children's film, which occasionally looks too intrusively at commercially successful role models, but thanks to thoughtful moments, cares about the value of friendship and responsibility proves to be credible and quite independent.
