The Robber Hotzenplotz is a German children's film from 1974 . It is based on the book Der Räuber Hotzenplotz by Otfried Preußler . In 1979 the sequel Neues vom Räuber Hotzenplotz was created ; Another film adaptation of The Robber Hotzenplotz is from 2006 .

action

One day, the robber Hotzenplotz, armed with a pepper gun and seven knives, steals Kasperl's grandmother's coffee grinder. The coffee grinder, invented by Kasperl and his best friend Seppel, plays grandmother's favorite song " Everything new in May " when it is turned . Since Sergeant Dimpfelmoser, who was summoned for the robbery, is unable to catch the robber, Kasperl and Seppel decide to track down the robber themselves. Their attempt fails, and they are now themselves captured by Hotzenplotz. However, the two friends had previously exchanged their hats, which is why the robber believes that Kasperl is Seppel and vice versa. He sells the supposed Seppel (i.e. Kasperl) to the great and evil magician Petrosilius Zwackelmann, who orders him to peel potatoes (because the magician can do everything, just not remove the peel of the potatoes that he likes to eat), while Seppel as Kasperl in disguise has to work in the cave for the robber.

When Zwackelmann visits a colleague in Buxtehude one day , Kasperl discovers the secret of the evil wizard. While examining the castle, he finds a pool in which the fairy Amaryllis is held captive. She gives him the decisive tip for leaving the castle. The magician had once turned the fairy godmother Amaryllis into a toad .

Some time later, Zwackelmann finds out that Kasperl and Seppel had switched their identities, which Hotzenplotz vigorously denies. In the end there is a small scuffle that the magician can decide for himself. As a result, Zwackelmann turns the robber Hotzenplotz into a bullfinch and locks him in a cage.

Kasperl has now succeeded in bringing the fairy herb to amaryllis, which grows under an old weather spruce on the mysterious Hohe Heide . This succeeds in lifting the magic and transforming the toad back into the fairy Amaryllis. Out of shock, the evil wizard falls into the pool of doom and dies. After leaving the castle, the fairy lets it collapse completely. Now both friends are also released.

As a thank you, the fairy gives Kasperl and Seppel a wish ring with which they have three wishes. On the way home, they want grandmother's coffee grinder to come, get a new pointed hat for Punch and Judy, and finally transform the robber Hotzenplotz, who they took with them as a bull in his cage from the robber's den, back into a person in the guard's office.

Film shoot

The film was shot in the Middle Franconian municipality of Wolframs-Eschenbach . In the credits of the film, the people of the place are named as actors and the name "Eschenbach" is also mentioned in the film.

Other locations were the city wall in Merkendorf and the Altenmuhr castle in Muhr am See .

The action is musically accompanied by a five-member minstrel group, represented by the Munich song group .

Trivia

When the fairy Amaryllis describes the way to the fairy herb for Kasperl, she also tells him how he can overcome Zwackelmann's magic spell, which makes it impossible to escape from the castle: He should leave one of his clothes in the castle, then he can go wherever he wants . Kasperl then leaves his or Seppel's hat in the castle and can escape unhindered. However, he did not have a hat on his first, unsuccessful attempt to escape and was otherwise dressed identically, so that the escape should have happened by chance at this point. This phenomenon could be explained by the fact that what matters is the deliberate act of leaving behind as opposed to simply forgetting.

In addition, Hotzenplotz is not locked in the syringe house as in the book, but immediately in a prison, although in "News from the robber Hotzenplotz", just like in the original book, he breaks out of the syringe house.

On the DVD and Bluray disc of the film, in addition to the German version, there is also a language version in Swiss German.
