Location of the municipality Treia in the Schleswig-Flensburg district | ||
Treia ( Danish : Treja ) is a municipality in a wooded area on the Treene in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The municipality includes Goosholz (Danish Gøsholt ), Grüft ( Grøft ), Harenburg ( Harenborg ), Ipland ( Ibland ), Nedderwatt ( Nedervad ) and Schwienholz ( Svinholt ) as well as the Bremsburg Forest ( Bremsborg Skov ).
etymology
The place name is identical to the original Danish name of the river Treene, Trejå , medieval Danish Trejaa . The river name, in turn, can be derived from the Danish word træ for wood or forest or trægh (sluggish). In the first case the translation would be forest river, in the latter case the property of the river would be designated. The river name is documented in 1323 as Trea , 1462 as tho der Trya and 1544 as inn die Treen .
history
Treia was mentioned as Traeaa in 1262 . Since that time the place was owned by the bishop of Schleswig , who maintained a fortified castle here. At the same time the bishop in Treia had a customs duty levied in two ways:
- Bridge toll for the land route between Schleswig and Husum (east-west direction)
- Ship duty for the Treene (north-south direction).
The Stapelholmer Weg , which as a historical trade route connected the Ochsenweg near Oeversee with the Eider near Süderstapel , also ran through Treia.
The west end of the Nicolaikirche bears the year 1757, the time of its enlargement. It was probably built around 1400. The church is consecrated to St. Nicholas , the patron saint of boatmen. So it can be assumed that the Treianer Kirche was created at a time when the Treene was still navigable. The skippers wanted a place of worship to implore their patron for protection or to thank him for his help. This also explains the location of the church in the immediate vicinity of the Treene and the point where the Treene crosses the path. There was probably a loading and storage area here, which is why the skippers stayed there. In the beginning this was probably just a small wooden chapel, which was built from the abundant wood of the area. According to Prof. Haupt, architectural and art monuments, the crucifix in the current church on the south wall by the pulpit dates from around 1300, which is probably a piece from the first church, which is a reference for its time Emergence there. In old documents, however, the year 1400 is mentioned, which means the building of the stone church and not the original wooden chapel. The church was given a wooden bell tower in 1912 .
The former Harenburg Castle (also Friesenburg) was built in 1415 by King Erich of Pomerania as a hilltop castle and destroyed by the Frisians the following year . The Danish castle captain Knappe Reimer Ottossohn v. Sehestedt (* 13 ??, † 1416) on Maasleben. A nearby farm is named after the squire.
