description

In the north, the Stapelholmer Weg began on Ochsenweg in Oeversee . It led downriver along the Treene to the south to Norderstapel and to Süderstapel on the Eider . The Treene was navigable from Hollingstedt .

The Stapelholmer Weg had an important meaning for the Flensburg merchants: On the lower reaches of the Eider flowing westwards, the merchants set up storage areas for the storage of Dutch and English goods. Horses, oxen and pigs were also driven along this path. From the middle of the 19th century, the transport of goods and livestock shifted to the rail, and the Stapelholmer Weg quickly lost its importance. Today he is the namesake for a cycle path .
