The Nikolaikirche in Treia is on the federal highway 201 near the Treenebrücke. Two important traffic routes used to cross here: the trade route running from west to east and the Treene, which was then heavily used . The whitewashed church building is dedicated to St. Nicholas , the patron saint of boatmen. This is probably related to the location of the place on the river.

Building history

The building is a single-nave late Gothic brick church with a roof turret and a retracted choir in the shape of a box. The origin probably goes back to the 13th century. In 1756/1757 the ship was extended to the west. This is evidenced by the large year that adorns the west facade together with the artfully forged wall anchors .

The church originally had no fixed tower, only a wooden, separate bell tower. In 1912 it received a square roof turret , the protruding tent roof of which is supported by consoles . Like the rest of the church roof, it is covered with red clay tiles. A copper tip with a ball and weather valve closes the roof ridge at the top.

Furnishing

The hall-like interior is covered by a wooden beam ceiling, which is boarded and plastered. Galleries are built into the north and west . The following equipment is available:

  • In the altar fragments from 1603 show two angels as half-figures.
  • The late Romanesque font dates from around 1300. It is made of granite , is cup-shaped with a square base and a cylindrical dome . They are decorated with flat arched arcades .
  • The pulpit is from 1603, shows forms of the Renaissance and is provided with pilasters and arched fields.
  • The organ was built by the Flensburg organ builder Jürgen H. Angel in 1797. The organ prospectus consists of a cabinet with a small central tower, framed by two large pedal towers. The organ case dates back to 1797, the current instrument itself was rebuilt in 1900 by the organ builder Emil Hansen. The slider chests -instrument has 15 registers on two manual stations and pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
