Rabenkirchen-Faulück ( Danish Ravnkær-Fovlløk ) is a municipality on the Schlei in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The municipality has existed in its current form since 1971. Faulück (Danish: Fovlløk ), Faulückfeld ( Fovlløkmark ), Karschau ( Karskov ), Neuwerk, Rabenkirchen ( Ravnkær ), Rabenkirchenholz ( Ravnkærskov ) and Spinkery ( Spinkeryde ) are located in the municipality.

Geography and traffic

Rabenkirchen-Faulück is about six kilometers west of Kappeln on the federal highway 201 from Kappeln to Husum . The places of the commune belonged in Danish times to the Schliesharde (also Schleiharde , Danish Slisherred ) on the northern bank of the Schlei.

history

Marienkirche in Rabenkirchen

The village Rabenkirchen the first time in King Waldemar Erdbuch 1231 as Rafnækyaer mentioned. In 1403 there is the form Ravenkier , 1509 Rauenkar and 1528 Ravenkarken . The place name is made up of Rabe (Danish ravn , Old Norse hrafn , Low German Råf ) and Danish -kær for Kratt, Bruch. The second part of the name was later reinterpreted in German as -kirchen (mnd. Kerke , nnd. Kark ).

The place Faulück was mentioned in 1231 as Fughælwich , in 1554 Fauvelck can be found . In Mejer 1641 it is already called Fagelluick . The name goes back to the old Danish words for bird (old Danish foghl , central Danish fovl ) and for bay (old Danish wik ). Its original meaning is thus bird's bay. From originally Fughælwwik assimilation was due to the w to the previous l and the reduction and rounding of i to ø Fovlløk (ke) (mda. Fovllyk ). Although the place is not directly on the Schlei , it is probably named after a bay on the Schlei.

The part of the name Kar- in Karschau either stands for the Danish karse for cress or goes back to the Old Norse kjarr for krat, bush. The second component -schau stands for forest (Danish skov ).

The St. Marien Church , a Romanesque stone church, was built in the 12th century. In the 15th century the Romanesque choir was torn down and replaced by a larger late Gothic building made of field and brick. At the end of the 15th century, the brick tower was the first stone tower to be built in Angles and covered with granite in the 17th century . The pastorate dates back to 1822. The wall paintings from the 17th century on the ground floor of the church tower are worth seeing . The organ above the altar is considered to be the oldest in fishing. It was renewed true to the original in 1999. Opposite the pulpit is the box of the noble landowners of Gut Dollrott. The box can be reached via an external staircase on the north wall.

Legend

The church is located on a small elevation away from the village of Rabenkirchen. According to a legend, two ravens, messengers from heaven, are said to have settled on the hill far from the village and determined the site of the church. But as with many churches of the 12th and 13th centuries, there was also a pre-Christian cult site here. This is what Odin's ravens ( Hugin and Munin ) refer to .

Younger story

(FSF) ”during the season excursions under the name“ Angelner Dampfeisenbahn ”with historical rail vehicles on the section between Kappeln and Süderbrarup, which also lead through Rabenkirchen-Faulück.

On April 1, 1971, the community Rabenkirchen-Faulück was re-formed through the merger of the previous communities Faulück and Rabenkirchen.

In 2000, the wreck of a large cargo ship from the 12th century was found in the municipality of Karschau in the Schlei . The ship is one of the last of its kind to be built in southern Scandinavia according to the traditional pattern at the time. The find was the first of one of the ocean-going ships that called the Schlei to trade.
