Johann Ludolph Forchhammer (born October 12, 1764 in Rabenkirchen , † July 13, 1810 in Tondern ) was a teacher.

Life

Johann Ludolph Forchhammer was a son of Thomas Forchhammer (born June 9, 1726 in Hattstedt , † August 17, 1771 in Rabenkirchen ), who had been a pastor since 1759. His mother named Johanna Dorothea, née Harboe (born August 14, 1742 in Töstrup ; † May 29, 1789 in Husum ) was a daughter of the pastor Johannes Harboe (1714–1744). He attended the school of scholars in Husum and began studying theology at Kiel University in 1784 . In 1788 he got a job as a collaborator at the learned school in Husum. In 1790 he passed the theological exam.

In 1791 Forchhammer married Margaretha Elisabeth Wiggers (baptized June 3, 1761 in Husum; † February 21, 1857 in Tondern ), with whom he had six sons, including Johann Georg and Peter Wilhelm , and a daughter. His wife was the daughter of the physician Georg Wiggers (1713–1803). In the same year he founded a private school and boarding school in his own house. In 1803 he took over as rector of the community school and the teachers' college in Tondern.

Act

Forchhammer was a scout. He set up a new citizen school in Tondern and reformed the seminary there. When he started work, the institution had 20 students, when he ended his life 80. In several articles, he formulated soberly and well-founded how the school system could be improved and some of these modern methods were used in his private school. He demanded that the clergy should hand over the school inspection. Teachers should be better paid and trained more comprehensively, said the pedagogue.

Forchhammer called for more schools to be set up with hygienic rooms and for the class size to be limited to a maximum of 20 students. He advocated new sports fields and better textbooks, and wanted to introduce decimal calculations and abolish mechanical learning. In addition, the contacts between parents and school should be better maintained. In addition, he started thinking about founding a teachers' association in Schleswig-Holstein.
