The Hermann Tast School (until 1924 Husum School of Academics ) is a humanistic grammar school in Husum . It was founded in 1527. The grammar school is named after the theologian Hermann Tast (1490–1551) who was born in Husum .

history

In 1527 the Reformation was confirmed in Husum by the then Danish king and the Husum community. The initiative for the Husum School of Academics founded at that time, the predecessor of today's Hermann Tast School, came from the patron of the same name and his supporter, the wealthy Husum businessman Matthias Knutzen , in whose private house the lessons were initially carried out by a teacher. It was not until 1533, when several donations were made by the Danish king, that the money was enough for a second teacher.

The first school building was erected on Süderstrasse in 1586. This building was designed so generously from the start that it could teach students for almost 300 years. This building was demolished in 1876. It was located next to the Marienkirche on the corner of Süderstrasse.

After the end of the German-Danish War in 1867, southern Schleswig and with it the city of Husum became part of the Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein . A new building was moved into this year. A building was built on Süderstrasse that was the home of high school students until 1974. This building, which was subsequently used as a secondary school, is now a five-star luxury hotel (Hotel Altes Gymnasium). During the summer vacation of 1974, the company was relocated to the current Am Bahndamm building .

Awards

As part of the national competition Jugend forscht , the Hermann Tast School received the “Jugend forscht Schule 2015” award from the Conference of Ministers of Education on June 30, 2015 . The school received an award for its exemplary concept in the MINT subjects .

Type and profile

The Hermann Tast School is an open all-day school . In a school program that was re-launched in 2004, a model was developed which should express the following pedagogical self-image. First and foremost, the educational goal is to strengthen the students' personal development through in-depth general education. The school feels obliged to promote the maintenance of this tradition (including the ancient languages), also with regard to the centuries-old tradition. The school therefore has an ancient language branch with Latin as the first foreign language and the option of taking Greek as an elective . Another focus (especially in the extra-curricular area) is seen as opening up to the environmental area. This orientation is expressed, among other things, in a business internship and various excursions.

Appearance and equipment

Hermann Tast School (2012)

The appearance of the current school building is based on a framework concept of the school building rules program from 1974. A comprehensive renovation of the building took place between 2005 and 2008.

There are 46 class and group rooms in the building. It also has a sports hall and other spacious outdoor sports facilities. Concerts, school celebrations and other school events take place in the auditorium, which was completed in 2006. Since 2008 there has also been a muesli corner with a modern design. There are also two computer rooms with adequate equipment. There is also a historical library with over 40,000 volumes of great age and value, the teachers' library and the student library with seven computer workstations. The student library uses the signatures of the SfB and the entire inventory is recorded in digital form.

In addition, most of the specialist work rooms in the natural sciences have stationary computer units with projectors.
