The Wiedensee (historical name also Wein See ) is a small lake in a sinkhole about 3.5 km south of Herzberg am Harz and 2 km southwest of Scharzfeld in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony .

The sinkhole is about 80 m in diameter and 18 m deep. The water depth is subject to fluctuations and averages around 9-10 m. After the snow melts, the water level is at its highest. The lake with no inflow and outflow is a protected part of the landscape and is located on the Karst hiking trail . The water level is a few meters below the bed of the Oder, which flows a good 400 m further north. The age of the lake is not known, the estimate given on the information board by the lake is 9,000 years.
