Athletic career

Until 1968 Frank Wiedensee played in the junior team of FC Karl-Marx-Stadt (FCK). With the junior national team, he played eight international matches between 1967 and 1968, in which he was first used as a striker and later as a midfielder and scored a goal. In the FCK league team, Wiedensee played his first games in the 1968/69 season. In the second half of the season he played eight league games, mainly in midfield, and also scored his first league goal. For the 1969/70 season he was officially nominated for the league, but was not used there. Instead, he played with the 2nd team in the third-rate district league , with which he was district champion. At the end of the season, the 1. FC team had been relegated and had to play in the second-rate GDR league in 1970/71 . Wiedensee continued to play predominantly in the district league team and was involved in the immediate resurgence of the first team with only three inserts and one goal. Even in the 1971/72 season nothing changed in his situation. In the league he was only used nine times and scored his mandatory goal again. With FCK II he was again district champion, which this time led to promotion to the GDR league.

For the 1972/73 season, Wiedensee was appointed captain of the GDR league team. With her he played 15 of the 22 point games and scored four goals. He did not play in the major league. 1973/74 he played neither in the league nor in the GDR league. The second team of the FCK rose again in 1974 in the district league, but managed to get promoted again immediately with Wiedensee. In the 1975/76 season, Wiedensee finally made it to the top league regular. After initially four appearances in the GDR league, he was used on the 7th match day for the first time in three years in a league match and then played the remaining 20 point games except for one game. Predominantly called up on the right attacking side, he scored two goals. In the following 1976/77 season, Hartmut Rauschenbach , later Peter Müller, took over Wiedensee's position, so that he fell back into the status of a substitute player and only made 14 goalless appearances. The 2nd team had meanwhile been disbanded. In 1977/78 and 1978/79, Wiedensee's situation did not change, he was only called up in seven (1 goal) and eight (goalless) league games. In the summer of 1979 he left FC Karl-Marx-Stadt and joined the GDR league club Motor Fritz Heckert Karl-Marx-Stadt . There he played the two seasons 1979/80 and 1980/81, in which he completed all 22 point games and scored a total of six goals. He then ended his career in competitive football at the age of 31. From 1969 to 1981 he had come to 65 league games with five goals and 66 GDR league games with twelve goals.
