Wolfgang Tolk

Wolfgang Tolk (born June 7, 1951 in Eberbach , Baden-Württemberg ) is a German painter, designer and author. He lives and works in Munich , Cologne and Trikorfo, Greece.

Life

After graduating from school in the late 1960s , Wolfgang Tolk volunteered at the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung in Mannheim . Several years of journalistic work as an editor followed, primarily in the features section . He then studied art history, philosophy and theology at the University of Education in Heidelberg . He then began studying at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts . In 1981 he moved to Gerhard Hoehme at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . In the same year he moved to Cologne . In 1983 Wolfgang Tolk moved into the studio in Thürmchenswall 72, together with Raimund Girke and James Reineking . A few years later he founded the label “studio-tolk cologne”. In 1994 he became a founding member of the Artothek Friends' Association in Cologne. Wolfgang Tolk has two children from his first marriage. In 2013 he married Johanna Rückert and moved to Munich .

Wolfgang Tolk designed the halogen lamp Minimum , inspired by a collaboration with Ingo Maurer , which was shown in various European museums and in 1989 incorporated into the collection of the Museum of Applied Arts in Cologne. In addition to his artistic work, he has been realizing various furniture designs in a strictly minimalist style since 1990. In 1997 the Shelf Load-it was added to the collection of the Design Museum Chicago. In 2005 he was invited to an interdisciplinary professorship at the Berlin University of the Arts (UDK). Wolfgang Tolk's work has been exhibited in various cities in Europe, often several times, such as at Walther König in Cologne. He also exhibited in Australia (Melbourne) and the USA (Chicago / Miami). Wolfgang Tolk designed for the Italian companies Porro , Boffi , Cappellini , Living Divani and Allglass Murano . Tolk wrote essays and manuscripts for novels as well as lectures mostly on the topics of interdisciplinarity, aesthetics and aesthetic experience. In 2012 he was invited to advise and curate the exhibition “From Aalto to Zumthor ” - Architectural Furniture, together with Gabrielle Lueg, at the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne (MAKK).
