Johann Heinrich Feustking

Johann Heinrich Feustking (born March 7, 1672 in Stellau , † March 23, 1713 in Gotha ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Johann Heinrich Feustking came from a Protestant pastor family that was establishing itself in Herford and Elmshorn. He was born the son of pastor Heinrich Feustking († May 25, 1682 in Stellau) and his wife Dorothea von Molsdorf (* Rostock; † August 17, 1691 in Hamburg). On his mother's side he was a grandson of the Rostock captain Sebastian von Molsdorf, who was married to a certain Magaretha Ellerhus. He was trained by his father and enthusiastic about theology. After initially attending school in Itzehoe and Krempe , he attended Rostock University from December 1689 . Turning to the study of theology, he moved on July 9, 1690 to the University of Wittenberg . There he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree from the philosophical faculty on April 28, 1692 . On June 27, 1694 he was accepted there as an adjunct to the philosophical faculty and on October 13 of the same year he was accepted into the circle of the college there.

This set the course for a career as a university lecturer. However, this changed when he accepted an appointment as superintendent and pastor to Jessen in 1697 . In order to meet the requirements of the office, he advanced to the licentiate in theology on February 19, 1697 and received his doctorate in theology on October 6 of the following year at the Wittenberg University. In 1703 he switched to the post of provost and superintendent in Kemberg and in 1706 went to Zerbst as consistorial advisor, court preacher and superintendent of the Prince of Anhalt- Zerbst . From there he returned to Wittenberg in 1709 as professor of theology and assessor of the electoral consistory and became preacher of the castle church there . In the summer semester of 1710 he was dean of the theological faculty and in the winter semester of 1710 rector of the Wittenberg educational institution . In 1712 he accepted a call as senior court preacher, senior consistorial councilor and church councilor at the Saxon court in Gotha, where he worked until the end of his life.
