List of the rectors of the University of Wittenberg
The rectors of the University of Wittenberg were usually elected every semester . The summer semester (hereinafter referred to as SS) usually began on May 1st and the winter semester (hereinafter referred to as WS) varied around October 18th. The election of the rector was dependent on the affiliation to the four faculties, the philosophical, theological , the law and the medical faculty, the Wittenberg University. Through the applied practice of giving nobles the title of rector, the elected academic staff took over the office of prorector. Therefore these are given separately. If a rector died during his tenure, he was replaced by a deputy, often his predecessor.
