Caspar Lindemann

Caspar Lindemann also: Lyndemann (* around 1486 in Eisleben ; † September 6, 1536 in Wittenberg ) was a German medic.

Life

Lindemann came from a not insignificant family. He was related to the famous reformer through Magarethe Lindemann, Martin Luther's mother . After adequate training, he moved to the University of Erfurt in 1497 , switched to the University of Leipzig in the summer semester of 1503 , where he acquired the degree of Baccalarus of the seven liberal arts on May 14, 1505 . After an intermediate studies in 1506 at the University of Frankfurt (Oder) , he went back to Leipzig, where he the degree of on December 28, 1507 Magisters of liberal arts acquired. With the master’s degree, he was able to hold lectures on New Logic in 1508/09.

Following his scientific interest, he moved to the universities in Italy. There he received his doctorate in medicine on April 27, 1511 at the University of Bologna . On his return to Leipzig he became a professor at the medical faculty, took part in the Leipzig disputation in 1519 , took part in the Reichstag in Augsburg in 1530 and was present at a consultation in Dessau in 1530 . In the winter semester of 1532/33 he switched to the University of Wittenberg as a professor of medicine alongside Augustin Schurff .

Lindemann, who had already been active as Friedrich the Wise 's personal physician, was released from his faculty duties and was also the personal physician of Elector Johann the Steadfast . In Wittenberg he was mainly concerned with anatomy. For example, on September 23, 1534, a teaching anatomy on a female corpse has come down to us. In addition, in the summer semester of 1534 he headed the rectorate of the Alma Mater until his death. His body was buried in the Wittenberg town church and an epitaph was erected on it. This grave slab was made by the Leipzig ore caster Urich Gretel.

The son Laurentius Lindemann also became known from his marriage to Margarethe Thümmel .
