Hämi Hämmerli

Urs "Hämi" Hämmerli (born December 12, 1953 in Langenthal ) is a Swiss jazz bassist.

Hämmerli first attended the teachers' seminar in Kreuzlingen and completed a commercial apprenticeship. From 1970 to 1977 he studied at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern. Then he worked as a freelance musician. He was a member of the Joe Malinga quintet and was part of the ensemble of Circus Federlos and Urs Blöchlinger's Jerry Dental Kollekdoof . He worked with Franco Ambrosetti , Jean-Luc Barbier , Bennie Wallace , Albert Mangelsdorff , Art Lande , Pierre Favre , Robert Morgenthaler , Peter Schärli , Co Streiff and Marco Käppeli . His concert activities have taken him all over Europe, to Peru and Bolivia; he played at many important European jazz festivals. He has recorded albums with Charlie Mariano , Michael Mossman , Tom Varner , Ed Neumeister , Lauren Newton and Daniel Schnyder . Currently (2009) he works in several bands with Christoph Baumann , Roberto Bossard and Bruno Spoerri .

From 1988 he taught double bass and ensemble playing at the St.Gallen Jazz School. In 1995 he was appointed artistic director of the Lucerne Jazz School (now part of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences ).
