Caspar Cruciger the Younger
Caspar Cruciger the Younger (born March 19, 1525 in Wittenberg , † April 16, 1597 in Kassel ) was a Lutheran theologian .
Life
Caspar Cruciger the Elder J. was born as the son of Caspar Cruciger the Elder. Ä. and Elisabeth von Meseritz born on March 19, 1525 in Wittenberg . Supported by his father and Philipp Melanchthon , he began studying theology at the university in his hometown in the summer semester of 1533 . On February 22, 1556 he passed the exam as a Magister in Philosophical Sciences.
On April 26, 1557 he entered the artistic faculty of the University of Wittenberg and held his lesson there as a professor of poetics. After the death of Philip Melanchthon, Cruciger took over his theology lesson on April 8, 1561 and continued his lectures. He received his degree in theology on May 16, 1561, and was accepted into the theological faculty on December 14, 1569. He then received his doctorate in theology on May 11, 1570, was dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in the summer semester of 1560 , vice-rector in the winter semester of 1564/65 , and rector of his alma mater in the summer semester of 1571 .
Cruciger d. Along with Georg Major and Paul Eber, J. was one of the pillars of the Philippists . At the Altenburg Religious Discussion and at the Zerbst Convention, he represented this faith. In 1574 there was a dispute with Matthias Flacius Illyricus . As a result, in 1574 , Elector August of Saxony demanded that the Wittenberg Philippists accept "the article on Holy Communion". However, Cruciger d. J. signed and was accused of being a representative of cryptocalvinism . As a result, he was expelled from Wittenberg, thrown into prison in Leipzig , temporarily interned in Naumburg and expelled from the Electorate of Saxony on November 19, 1576 , with the condition that he would never write anything against the Elector and the State of Saxony, not even against him Church and the Universities.
He then went to Dillenburg for two years , where Count Heinrich von Nassau-Dillenburg offered him asylum . He then moved to Kassel , where he became pastor and chairman of the ecclesiastical board of trustees and took over the education of the Prince and later Landgrave Moritz . Above all, he spread the reformist doctrine, but refused an appointment to the University of Leiden in order not to be considered a Calvinist . Caspar Cruciger the Elder J. died in Kassel on April 16, 1597.

On November 24, 1561, he married Elisabeth, the daughter of Sebastian Fröschel . With her he had the son Georg , professor of theology and philosophy in Marburg , and four daughters.
