Johannes Gunckel (also: Gunckelin, Stöb, Stöbius ; * around 1486 in Wangen im Allgäu ; † 1535 in Wittenberg ) was a German physicist and logician.

Life

Matthias Ratzeberger's stepbrother enrolled at the University of Wittenberg in the summer semester of 1504 , where he became a Baccalaureus on September 30, 1505 , and on January 3, 1507, he obtained the degree of master's degree in liberal arts. In the winter semester 1508/09 he was accepted into the senate of the philosophical faculty, held the office of dean of the faculty in the summer semester 1512 and in the winter semester 1520/21, and was rector of the Wittenberg Academy in the summer semester 1518 and in the winter semester 1528/29 .

In 1512 he was admitted to the old college and professorship for physics according to Thomasius, took over the professorship for Thomistic logic in June 1521 and became professor for Aristotelian metaphysics in 1523 . In 1523 he came into question as the successor to the deceased Canon Johannes Rachel, but renounced it on June 22, 1524 because he refused the priestly ordination required for this and decided to marry. Instead, he was on October 6, 1525 with economic tasks as the caterer and steward of the university, which he remained until the end of his life.

His widow can still be verified with a house sale in Wittenberg in 1543.
