Christoph Blanck (also: Blank, Plancus ; * around 1480 in Ulm ; † March 19, 1541 in Wittenberg ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Blanck enrolled at the University of Tübingen on March 9, 1499 , moved to the University of Vienna in 1501 , went to the University of Ingolstadt on June 16, 1502, and in the winter semester 1504/05 to the University of Wittenberg . Here he met Christoph von Scheurl , who also supported him financially. On November 5, 1515, he acquired the degree of licentiate in law and took up a teaching post at the law faculty. On September 29, 1516 he became their dean and procurator in the small choir of the Wittenberg Castle Church .

When the benefices of the scholastics at the Wittenberg Castle Church were dissolved as a result of the Wittenberg Movement in 1524, he began to change his mind towards the Lutheran interpretation of the faith. Therefore, he also took part in the reforms to be carried out at the Wittenberg Academy, took over the asset management of the Castle Church in October 1525 and became rector of the university in the summer semester of 1531 and asset manager of the Wittenberg Academy in 1536. He managed the finances until his retirement on May 2, 1540. He died of a bad diet during a febrile illness. Blanck was often present at Martin Luther's round tables , and even after his death Philipp Melanchthon praised him as an “amicus noster”.
