Ernst Christian Schröder (also Schroedter ; born May 14, 1675 in Wittenberg , † March 8, 1758 in Wittenberg) was a German mathematician.

Life

Ernst Christian Schröder was born in Wittenberg in 1675 as the son of the Wittenberg university printer Christian Schröder and his wife Elisabeth, the daughter of the printer Michael Wendt. He first attended school in Wittenberg, then the grammar school in Zittau , studied in the summer semester of 1688 at the University of Leipzig and on April 19, 1695 moved to the University of Wittenberg . In his hometown he obtained the academic degree of a Magister on April 28, 1696 , became an adjunct at the philosophical faculty on July 28, 1702 and an associate professor of minor mathematics in 1708 .

After he had become a full professor of lower mathematics in 1709, he soon received a full professorship in logic and metaphysics in 1715. He held courses on the entire theoretical philosophy and dealt with topics of historia philosophica and natural philosophy. He remained in this position until the end of his life. He contributed very little to the reputation of the traditional catheter. Rather, he only filled this chair instead of developing it. Nevertheless, he administered the rectorate of the Wittenberg Academy in the summer semester of 1716 and 1740 .

Genealogically it should be noted that at the age of 39 he married Christina Elisabeth, the daughter of the surgeon Joachim Flöricke. His daughter Christina Elisabeth married the theologian Christian Sigismund Georgi, the daughter Sophia Friderika married the lawyer August German Seltenreich, Catherina Maria marries the lawyer Johann Gottfried Auerbach, the son Christian Gottfried Ernst died early and Ernst Gottfried Christian was adjunct at the father's death of the philosophical faculty of the Wittenberg Academy.
