Caspar Heinrich Horn

Caspar Heinrich Horn (born February 5, 1657 in Freiberg , † February 6, 1718 in Wittenberg ) was a German lawyer and legal scholar.

Life

Born as the son of Freiberg councilor Gottfried Horn and his wife Catharina Elisabeth (née Drezschner), he attended the city school and high school in his hometown. In 1675 he moved to the University of Leipzig , held his first disputations here and in 1677 moved to the University of Frankfurt (Oder) , where he completed a law degree with Samuel Stryck, among others . In 1679 he returned to his hometown, then went to Tennstädt to run a practice and a year later made a trip to Holland , France and Switzerland . After he returned to his homeland in 1680 from his educational trip, he found a job that took him to Germany and France as a secretary.

In Wittenberg he takes on 22 July 1684 re-studies, acquired at 15 December 1684 the Licentiate of Law, was appointed in 1685 in Freiberg with the Council and obtained his doctorate on 8 October of the same year Doctor of Law. After working as a city judge in Freiberg in 1686, he was appointed assessor at the law faculty of the University of Wittenberg on August 1, 1687, became a lawyer at the Wittenberg court in 1688, and on June 14, 1690 professor at the law faculty of the Wittenberg academy took over a seat at the Schöppenstuhl in the court court. After he was promoted to assessor at the Lower Lusatia regional court in 1700 , he became assessor at the Wittenberg consistory in 1706 , member of appeal in 1709 and, finally, in 1713 as head of the law faculty, its full professor, which he remained until the end of his life.

During his Wittenberg professorship, Horn was mainly active in the field of constitutional law, which he introduced into regular academic teaching. In addition, his lectures included the general principles of constitutional law and he continued to explain the consequences of constitutional law in the German Empire, whose character as a unitary state he adhered to despite Samuel von Pufendorf . In addition, Horn was dean of the law faculty nine times and in the summer semesters 1691, 1699, and 1715 rector of Leucorea and also in 1705 the institute's prorector.

In terms of genealogy, it should be noted that he married Elenora Catharina, the daughter of the superintendent Christian Gottfried Lincke, on September 30, 1685 in Freiberg. From this marriage the children are Elenora Henrica Horn (born October 13, 1687, married 1706 in Freiberg with D. Otto Friedrich Lange, consultant in Dresden), Rachel Catharina (born May 17, 1689 in Freiberg, married September 27, 1712 with Dr. med Jacob Bartelmaei in Dresden), one son (April 20, 1691 - July 19, 1691), Bengina (February 27, 1692 - March 1, 1692) known.
