Wittenberg Consistory

The Wittenberg Consistory was a sovereign authority of the Evangelical Church with its seat in Wittenberg . The consistory was founded in 1539 in the capital of the Ernestine spa district. With the change of the Kurkreis to the Albertine line of the Wettins after the Battle of Mühlberg in 1547, the consistory existed until 1816 as an authority of the electorate and from 1806 the Kingdom of Saxony . From 1580 it was under the Dresden Consistory.

As part of the sovereign church regiment, the consistory was responsible for church and school affairs in the superintendents Barby, Baruth, Belzig, Bitterfeld, Dahme, Gommern, Graefenhainichen, Herzberg, Jessen, Jüterbog, Kemberg, Klöden, Liebenwerda, Schlieben, Seyda, Torgau, Wittenberg and Zahna.
