Thomas Böhlke

Thomas Böhlke (born October 4, 1968 in Berlin ) is professor and department head of the Institute for Technical Mechanics / Continuum Mechanics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Karlsruhe .

biography

From 1990 to 1995 Böhlke studied mechanical engineering / physical engineering at the TU Berlin . He then worked for five years as a research assistant at the Institute for Mechanics at the University of Magdeburg . From May 1998 to October 1998 and August 1999 he was a visiting researcher at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Troy in New York (USA). This was followed by a doctorate at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (referee: A. Bertram ) with the title Crystallographic Texture Evolution and Elastic Anisotropy: Simulation, Modeling, and Application . He completed his doctorate with the grade summa cum laude and received the dissertation award of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg in 2001.

From December 2000 to November 2002 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Mechanics at the University of Magdeburg before starting a junior professorship on micro-macro interactions in mechanics at the University of Magdeburg. In 2005 he took up a position as a substitute professor for technical mechanics and continuum mechanics at the University of Kassel . Since October 2006, Thomas Böhlke has been professor for continuum mechanics in mechanical engineering at the Institute for Technical Mechanics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. In the same year he completed his habilitation with a cumulative thesis entitled Crystallographic Texture and Continuum Mechanical Modeling .

Research priorities

Thomas Böhlke's research focuses on FE-based multiscale methods, the homogenization of elastic, brittle-elastic and visco-plastic material properties, as well as the mathematical description of microstructures, as well as dealing with localization and failure mechanisms.

Awards

In February 2007, Böhlke received the Prize for Excellent Teaching at the University of Karlsruhe .
