Bartholomäus Kranepul

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bartholomäus Kranepul , also Cranapol, Kranappel etc. , (* around 1450 in Wittenberg ; † before November 30, 1508 ibid) was a German Catholic theologian.

Life

Kranepul apparently came from an old Wittenberg councilor family who had established themselves as cloth makers in Wittenberg in the 15th century. In the Wittenberg council files one finds a Matthias Kranepuhl from 1441 to 1446 as councilor and an Ambrosius Kranepul 1494 as city judge. Since the councilors belonged to the respected and financially better off citizens, he should have had the financial basis to start studying at the University of Leipzig in the winter semester of 1469 . There he obtained the degree of a Baccalaureus in 1471 and in 1473 was Master of the Seven Liberal Arts. At that time, the master’s degree was also tied to the obligation to give lectures at the university.

As a result of the division of Leipzig , the Saxon Elector Friedrich the Wise began to expand his new residence in Wittenberg. To this end, he rebuilt the Wittenberg Castle and built a new Wittenberg Castle Church , which was to become the center of intellectual life at the time. So the elector moved important people of his time to Wittenberg who supported him in his project. One of them was Kranepul, who became canon of the castle church on August 29, 1487. The owner of the first Saxon ducal prebend can be found in the Wittenberg matriculation records when the University of Wittenberg was founded in 1502 and, after Martin Pollich , becomes rector of the Alma Mater in the summer semester of 1503 . In 1507 he is no longer listed in the ranks of the Wittenberg university professors.

On February 21, 1508, he was called to the university as a scholar . However, his death put an end to any further effect.
