Heinrich Cosel also: Henricius Coselius de Pezlinovez (born May 3, 1616 in Prague , † April 17, 1657 in Wittenberg ) was a Bohemian jurist.

Life

Cosel was the son of the Prague councilor and syndic of the same name and his wife Ludmilla von Oskorsching, the daughter of Johannes Hrischkli von Oskorsching. His grandfather Johannes Cosel von Perzlinovez belonged to the Bohemian nobility and had married Martha von Olterschik, the daughter of the Prague citizen Georgi von Olterschik. After Blood Sunday in Prague, Cosel was one of those who fled Bohemia from the persecution of the Catholic Counter-Reformation. He found a new home in Pirna, Saxony . On July 16, 1633 Cosel began to study philosophical sciences at the University of Wittenberg and then turned to the study of law. For this he visited universities and cities in the Spanish Netherlands .

He returned to Wittenberg via Hamburg in 1639. Here he acquired his licentiate in law on January 25, 1646 and was awarded a doctorate in law on February 3, 1646. In 1647 he received the position of court lawyer and became an assessor at the Wittenberg Faculty of Law. In 1649 he received the legal publicus professorship and was associated with it as assessor at the Wittenberger Schöppenstuhl. 1652 he became Professor of institutions and in 1554 he was Pandektenprofessor the Digestum Novum s. Infortiatum. In addition, Cosel also took part in the organizational tasks of Leucorea. He was dean of the law faculty and in the summer semester of 1655 rector of the alma mater . However, its effectiveness did not last long as he passed away at the age of almost 41.

Cosel married on February 3, 1646 in Wittenberg with Elisabeth Buchner, the daughter of the Wittenberg professor August Buchner . The children Johann Heinrich Cosel, Maria Elisabeth Cosel, August Cosel and Anna Katharina Cosel are known from their marriage. His son of the same name also became a lawyer.
