Joachim Nerger (* around 1626 in Greiffenberg , Principality of Schweidnitz-Jauer ; † February 28, 1682 in Wittenberg ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Joachim Nerger's parents were the butcher Georg Nerger and the baker's daughter Regina, née Seyffert. First he attended school in his hometown. On March 11, 1638 he became a student at the Elisabetgymnasium in Breslau , where he became a close friend of the poet Andreas Scultetus . On May 7, 1645 he enrolled for the law at the University of Wittenberg , where his teachers included Jeremias Reusner , Gottfried Suevus (1615–1659), Christoph Wacke and Christian Taubmann .

After completing his studies, he received a position as protonotary at the Wittenberg court court and as a lawyer at the Wittenberg consistory in 1650. On June 10, 1652, he obtained his degree in law with the work de executione rei iudicatae, and on September 8, 1659, he received his doctorate in law . In the year of his doctorate he became professor of institutions , rose to the pandect professorship of the digestum novum in 1662 and finally in 1675 to the pandect professorship of the digestum vetus. He also took part in the organizational tasks of the Wittenberg University. In the summer semesters of 1675 and 1681 he was their rector .

His student Samuel Stryk praised his rhetorical and pedagogical skills. Nerger's publications are largely limited to occasional papers, programs, and dissertations, the value of which is that they provide an overview of the teaching activities at the Wittenberg University. They also show the increasing importance of the then newer problems in the field of legal studies in natural law, constitutional and international law, princely law, also customary law and legal history, trade and maritime law.

Nerger was married to Anna Katharina Pelshofer († May 21, 1676 in Wittenberg).
