Johann Gottfried Leonhardi

Johann Gottfried Leonhardi (born June 18, 1746 in Leipzig , † January 11, 1823 in Dresden ) was a German medic.

Life

Born as the son of the doctor of medicine David Leonhardi, he studied at the University of Leipzig from Easter 1764 , where he received his baccalaureate on December 5, 1767 and on February 14, 1771, he obtained the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. On October 25, 1771, he obtained the degree of licentiate . In 1781 he became an associate professor of medicine at the Leipzig Academy.

In the following year he followed a call as professor of anatomy and botany at the University of Wittenberg and in 1782 he was appointed chair of pathology and surgery. In mid-July 1791 he moved to Dresden as the elector's personal physician and councilor. He was allowed to keep his professorships, but had to provide a substitute. Nevertheless, he remained connected to the Wittenberg Academy and held the rector's office of the university in the summer semester of 1791 and in the winter semesters of 1785, 1801 and 1807 . In 1789 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

In 1781 he published a German edition of the influential chemical lexicon by Pierre-Joseph Macquer , which he translated and annotated.
