Wolfgang Schaller (doctor)

Wolfgang Schaller (born August 6, 1582 in Freiberg , † March 21, 1626 in Wittenberg ) was a German medic.

Life

Wolfgang's father of the same name earned his living as a beret maker, became a citizen and judge in Freiberg. The younger Schaller attended school in Dresden , was deposited at the University of Leipzig in the summer semester of 1596 and from June 6, 1600 attended the electoral Saxon state school St. Afra in Meissen . On October 9, 1604, he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg , where he first completed a degree in philosophical sciences. On April 7, 1606, he acquired the degree of Master of Philosophy here. He then completed a degree in medical science with Gregor Horstius and Daniel Sennert .

On May 15, 1612 he was licentiate in Wittenberg and on July 14, 1612 doctor of medicine. From 1613 he worked as a general practitioner in Torgau and in 1616 became professor of anatomy at the Wittenberg University. As a Wittenberg university lecturer, he also participated in the organizational tasks of the Wittenberg Leucorea and was rector of the Alma Mater in the winter semester of 1619 and in the winter semester of 1625 . In addition, she was the personal physician of the Saxon Electress Hedwig of Denmark during her stay at Lichtenburg Castle .

Schaller was married twice. He concluded his first marriage in Wittenberg on February 9, 1618 with Marie Selfisch (* July 19, 1600 in Wittenberg; † May 30, 1623 ibid.), The daughter of the Wittenberg grain writer Samuel Selfisch (* April 12, 1563 in Wittenberg; † July 23, 1613 in Wittenberg) and his wife Helena Götting (* ± 1570; † January 13, 1639 in Wittenberg). The sons Jacob Schaller, Johannes Schaller, Samuel Schaller and Wolfgang Schaller are known from their marriage. His second marriage was on November 2, 1624 in Wittenberg with Maria Magdalena Hilliger (born May 10, 1608 in Freiburg; † September 7, 1632 in Wittenberg), the daughter of Gabriel Hillinger (died March 19, 1580 in Freiberg; † 29 October 1633 ibid.) And his wife Magdalena Horn († September 11, 1611 ibid.). The marriage remained childless. His second wife married the lawyer Christian Taubmann .
