Theodor Dassov, also: Theodorus Dassovius, Theodor Dassow , (born February 27, 1648 in Hamburg , † January 6, 1721 in Rendsburg ) was a German linguist and Lutheran theologian .

Life

Born as the son of the Hamburg Archdeacon at the Mariendom Johannes Dassov (1632–1682) and his wife Gertrud Uppendorf († March 27, 1678), he attended the academic high school in his hometown. In 1669 he enrolled at the University of Giessen , acquired a master's degree from the Faculty of Philosophy, was a private lecturer there and switched to the University of Wittenberg on October 7, 1673 .

There he was accepted as an adjunct at the philosophical faculty on April 16, 1676 , received an extraordinary professorship in oriental languages on March 18, 1676 and undertook a research trip that took him to England and Holland . On August 31, 1678, when he returned to Wittenberg, he was given a full professorship in poetics, and in 1690, according to his inclination, he switched to a full professorship in oriental languages.

In Wittenberg he devoted himself to theology, obtained a licentiate in theology on April 14, 1699 and in the same year switched to the University of Kiel , where he became professor of theology and oriental languages. When he had taken over the office of pastor with the theological professorship, he received his doctorate in theology, became Danish senior consistorial advisor, general superintendent of the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein and provost of Rendsburg, where he died.
