Heinrich Muhlius

Heinrich Muhlius (born March 7, 1666 in Bremen , † December 7, 1733 in Kiel ) was a German Protestant theologian and general superintendent in the ducal Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf .

Life

Heinrich Muhlius was born in Bremen on March 7, 1666 and initially studied at the University of Kiel . The University of Leipzig awarded him a master's degree in 1690 . He was then placed as a professor at Kiel University for Greek and Oriental languages, for poetry and for rhetoric . In 1695 he only taught theology, at the same time he was appointed inspector of Schleswig-Holstein schools. Two years later he was appointed as the successor to his father-in-law Gabriel Wedderkop as the main pastor of the Nikolaikirche in Kiel, although the magistrate allegedly did not agree. That is why he gave up his office in the same year, but in return became both ducal Gottorpschen general superintendent, Oberhof preacher and senior consistorial councilor and provost . In addition, he held a position as an honorary professor at the university, received his doctorate in theology in 1699 and, with Magnus von Wedderkop, also worked as a visitor to the university from 1706 . From 1708 he held the post of theology teacher at the university again. Shortly afterwards, after the fall of Magnus von Wedderkop, he had to give up the office of visitor, inspector and court preacher, but he remained general superintendent and professor. After Muhlius became a senior at the university in 1724 .

Heinrich Muhlius had already acquired the Muhlius Chapel in the Bordesholm monastery church during his lifetime , where he was buried after his death in December 1733.

Muhlius is one of the heads of pietism in Schleswig-Holstein and was involved in several controversies, including a. he defended his predecessor Caspar Hermann Sandhagen against the accusation of his colleague Josua Schwartz of attaching a heresy.
