Johann Avenarius II.
Johann Avenarius (* around 1579 in Öhringen ; † December 25, 1631 in Wittenberg ) was a German legal scholar.
Life
Born as the son of the Jena innkeeper to the Black Eagle, Joseph Habermann and his wife Magdalena, the daughter of Burchhard Stenzler from Öhringen, he attended schools in Jena and Zwickau . Johann Avenarius was a grandson of Johann Avenarius I. He studied philosophy at the University of Jena for three years from the age of 18 and then began studying law. Then he took up a position as a private tutor in Regensburg and continued his legal studies at the University of Helmstedt .
He returned to Jena, founded a private school in his house and held various political and legal colleges there. In the long run, however, this did not go well, so that he went to Austria in 1609 and reached Dresden via Strasbourg , Basel and Freiburg im Breisgau in 1613 , where he was accepted by his cousin Josef Avenarius . From here, the way to the University of Wittenberg was paved for him in 1617 , where he received a professorship for rhetoric.
He occupied this position for 14 years until his death with diligence and the benefit of the academic youth. He mainly taught about the eloquence of Cicero . On September 9, 1631, he fell ill with a four-day fever. As a result of the weakening of his body, he collapsed and passed away on Christmas Day. His body was buried on December 29th in Wittenberg. When Avenarius died, his professorship was combined with that of poetry.
family
He married Anna (* December 21, 1597 in Wittenberg; † January 18, 1632 in Wittenberg), the daughter of the administrator of the university and electoral magistrate Elias Jahn and his wife Anna Hortleder the sister of the Saxon politician and councilor Friedrich Hortleder . With her he had two sons and a daughter, of which only the youngest Christopherus Avenarius survived the mother.
