Samuel Knight

Samuel Ritter (born May 30, 1624 in Halle (Saale) ; † November 19, 1657 ibid) was a German legal scholar .

Life

The son of the assessor at the Schöppenstuhl in Halle and the Magdeburg state counsel Samuel Ritter (born June 16, 1597 in Eisleben, † June 27, 1647 in Halle), had already received a good education from his father. After the acquisition of the university, he had his academic studies at the University of Leipzig started, was on 20 June 1642 at the University of Wittenberg gone and there had in 1644 the highest philosophical degree of Magister acquired. In order to be trained as a lawyer, following the example of his father, he then continued his studies in Leipzig. In 1647 he left Saxony and said goodbye to his father to teach the children of the patrician Dietrich Langermann in Hamburg . Only when he heard the news of his father's death did he return to his homeland.

He then devoted himself to academic life. To this end, he had obtained a licentiate in law in Wittenberg on May 5, 1648 , became a councilor in Wittenberg in 1651 and was appointed full professor of the institutions on December 13, 1652 . In addition, he had become an assessor at the Wittenberg court and at the law faculty. In order to fulfill the tasks assigned to him his doctorate he on 18 January 1653 to the doctor of the rights and was in the summer semester 1657 rector of the alma mater . Ritter, who fell ill after completing his doctorate, continued to suffer from that disease. After the tenure of his rectorate, he wanted to visit his hometown, where he died. His body was transferred to Wittenberg and buried there.
