Life

Reinhold was born as the son of the Wittenberg professor of history and rhetoric Andreas Franckenberger and his wife Barbara Böckelmann from Danzig. On December 15, 1596, he enrolled at the university in his hometown, where he initially wanted to study medicine. Later, however, he turned to the historical sciences and was thus completely in the tradition of his father. After he had excellently defended his work De colligationis exterarum epocharum ad annos a mundo condito rationibus under Johannes Behm (1578–1648) in 1608, he traveled to Germany, France, England, the Netherlands and Denmark. In Denmark he met Christian Severin , among others .

When he returned to Wittenberg, under the dean's office of Friedrich Taubmann , he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy in 1612. After the history professorship in Wittenberg had become vacant due to the death of Johannes Wanckel , he became professor of history at the University of Wittenberg on September 28, 1616. Here he participated in the organizational tasks of the university. In the summer semesters 1619, 1635, 1641 and 1647 and in the winter semesters 1624, 1630 and 1653 he was dean of the philosophical faculty. In the summer semesters 1620, 1634 and 1656 he was the rector's office of the Alma Mater .

In 1618 Franckenberger married Katherina Reichenbach, the daughter of Wittenberg councilor Thomas Reichenbach. The marriage produced six children: Thomas Franckenberger, Andreas Franckenberger, Reinhold Franckenberger, Dorothea Franckenberger, Katharina Barbara Franckenberger and Anna Maria Franckenberger
