Hermann Tulichius
Hermann Tulichius , also known as Tulken , Tulike or Tulich (* around 1486 in Steinheim in the prince-bishopric of Paderborn ; † July 28, 1540 in Lüneburg ), was a Protestant theologian, educator and reformer.
Life
Tulichius attended the cathedral school in Münster and was particularly influenced by Johannes Murmellius . Meibom reports that he studied with Konrad Goclenius in Leuven , but this news is uncertain. There is evidence that he was enrolled in Wittenberg in 1508 and in Leipzig in 1512 . He earned his living as a proofreader for the book printer Melchior Lotther the Elder. J. During this time he edited Cicero's speeches.
In February 1520 he decided to go to Wittenberg, where he also had friends. On February 9, 1520 he became a master there and quickly gained a respected position. Martin Luther dedicated his De captivitate babylonica ecclesiae to him , and Philipp Melanchthon his Plutarch edition. In 1522 Tulichius got a chair in the artistic faculty, read about ancient poets, but also about Rudolf Agricola's De inventione dialectica . In the following year he was elected canon of the All Saints' Monastery, he refused to accept episcopal ordination and therefore lost this position and the benefices linked to it in 1524.
This decision caused a sensation, especially since Tulichius got into an economic emergency. He went to Eisleben as headmaster and published the first German Protestant school regulations there. In the same year, in October 1525, the University of Wittenberg called him back and in the winter semester of 1525 made him rector of the Alma Mater . But Tulichius did not step forward there. In 1532 he was elected rector of the Johanneum at the suggestion of Urbanus Rhegius in Lüneburg . His school rules, the Leges Tulichianae , made him famous. He must also have had great pedagogical skills. According to his experience, he assigned great importance to the lessons for life: “Grammatica in scholis facit miracula, catechism in ecclesia”.
