The church of Stellau is located in a district of Wrist in the lowlands of Stör and Bramau . It is a towerless, single-nave stone building. The field stones are walled up with plaster from the Kalkberg in Segeberg. Stylistically, the building shows both Romanesque elements (the arched windows) and Gothic (the rounded choir arch). The ensemble also includes the old thatched pastorate from 1706, the new classicist pastorate from 1858 and a free-standing belfry with a boarded case from 1851.

history

In 1201 the Knights of Krummendiek built the church near the Stellau battlefield .

It was consecrated in 1230 by Archbishop Gerhard II of Bremen.

In 1636 the choir collapsed . The Gothic archway was then walled up. From the 17th century, the outer walls were reinforced by supporting pillars. Wall anchors were inserted for further stabilization .

After the Reformation, the Rantzaus took over the patronage of the church, which still exists today.

Around 1900 the north entrance of the church was walled up to the window.

In the middle of the 20th century the church received a gallery and an organ.

Furnishing

The altar has a baroque structure with twisted columns, which was created in the middle of the 17th century. In the predella the Lord's Supper is depicted in oil on wood. The main part shows a representation of the brazen serpent in oil on canvas ( Num 21  LUT ).
The baptism of 1593 is made of sandstone. The baptismal font, which stands on a fluted shaft, has a two-line inscription and two coats of arms. The baptism was donated by Heinrich Rantzau and his wife. It is one of the earliest Reformation sandstone baptisms in the country.
Next to the altar is the cup-shaped stone holy water font on an octagonal shaft.
  • Figures of bishops and group of crosses
Two figures of bishops and a group of crosses from the end of the 15th century are next to and above the altar. The figures represent Vicelin and Ansgar , the latter as the founder of a church with a church in hand.
The four-sided basket was created around 1560. The depiction of the four evangelists in the fields (oil on panel) is more recent.
