Jan Kwasi Gyamerah (born June 18, 1995 in Berlin ) is a German soccer player who is under contract with Hamburger SV .

childhood

Jan Gyamerah was born in 1995 to a Ghanaian , who came to Berlin to study in 1989 , and his German wife in Berlin. Since he was born on a Sunday, he got the African second name Kwasi ( Ewe for Sunday). In 1999 the family moved to Stadthagen in Lower Saxony , where his sister was born.

Career

Gyamerah initially played for FC Stadthagen before moving to VfL Bochum via Arminia Bielefeld in January 2011 . Here he went through the youth teams and made his debut on December 20, 2013 (19th matchday) in the 2nd division , when he was brought into play in the 66th minute by coach Peter Neururer for Danny Latza .

For the 2019/20 season, Gyamerah switched to league competitor Hamburger SV , with whom he signed a contract until June 30, 2022. Under head coach Dieter Hecking , Gyamerah was a regular player and played the first 5 league games as a right-back in the starting line-up. On September 11, 2019, he broke his fibula during training and had to undergo an operation. During his absence, Josha Vagnoman took over the right-back position, before after his long-term injury (fracture of the tarsal bone) with Khaled Narey , the third player played this position from matchday 12. After the winter break, the newcomer Jordan Beyer , who had been loaned by the first division club Borussia Mönchengladbach until the end of the season due to Gyamerah and Vagnoman's injuries , was set as right-back. Gyamerah returned to team training at the beginning of March 2020. On the 26th matchday, which was scheduled for March 13th, Gyamerah was back in the matchday squad. However, gaming operations were suspended on the same day due to the COVID-19 pandemic . At the beginning of May he suffered a muscle injury to his hip flexor during the season break and missed the resumption of play about a week later. About a month later, Gyamerah returned to the matchday squad on matchday 30 and was substituted on for the first time in the following game.

position

Gyamerah, a trained right-back, can hold any position in the back four . In addition, he was also used in defensive midfield .
