Tom Mickel (born April 19, 1989 in Hoyerswerda ) is a German football goalkeeper .

Career

In the club

Beginnings

Mickel played in his youth at FC Lausitz Hoyerswerda and at Energie Cottbus , where he moved up to the men's division for the 2007/08 season and played in the second team (U23).

Hamburger SV

For the 2009/10 season Mickel moved to Hamburger SV . There he signed a professional contract until June 30, 2012, which he extended in October 2011 by one year to 2013. During his time in Hamburg Mickel was always number two or three in the goalkeeper hierarchy. In three and a half years Frank Rost , Jaroslav Drobný and René Adler were preferred to him. He gained match experience in the second team in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord .

SpVgg Greuther Fürth

During the winter break of the 2012/13 season , Mickel moved to SpVgg Greuther Fürth six months before his contract expired . He signed a contract there until June 30, 2015. There he was used in the remainder of the 2012/13 season and the 2013/14 season, initially in the second team in the fourth-class Bavarian regional league . Mickel made his professional debut on the 8th match day of the 2013/14 season when he came on as a substitute for the injured Wolfgang Hesl in the 77th minute of the game against TSV 1860 Munich . Five more missions followed, in which he represented Hesl. Mainly Mickel played in the second team again. After his contract expired, Mickel left the club on June 30, 2015.

Return to HSV

At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, Mickel completed a trial training session at his former club Hamburger SV as part of the training camp in Graubünden in order to recommend himself for a commitment. After the trial training session, Mickel was signed for the second team. He received a contract until the end of the 2015/16 Regional League season . On May 14, 2016, Mickel made his Bundesliga debut for HSV in a 3-1 win against FC Augsburg on the last match day , which was made possible by injuries to René Adler and Andreas Hirzel and Jaroslav Drobný's cancellation . Mickel was used in 20 games in the regional league.

In the 2016/17 season he ousted Hirzel as the third goalkeeper of the first team. He also played his second Bundesliga game for HSV in Augsburg when FC Augsburg beat HSV 4-0 on April 30, 2017. After the end of the season Mickel extended his expiring contract with HSV until 2019. Mickel played 17 games in the second team.

At the end of the first half of the 2017/18 season , Mickel was temporarily promoted to "number 2" behind Christian Mathenia by Markus Gisdol instead of Julian Pollersbeck because of his good training performance . During the season he was used five times in the second team.

Before the 2018/19 season , in which HSV played in the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time , Mickel extended his contract until June 30, 2021. After the departure of Christian Mathenia, he was from then on the replacement of Julian Pollersbeck. He played under Titz and his successor Hannes Wolf 3 second division games when Pollersbeck was injured.

For the season 2019/20 was with Daniel Heuer Fernandes commits a new goalkeeper, who the new head coach Dieter Hecking to number one has been appointed. Mickel was preferred as a substitute goalkeeper before Pollersbeck. He also remained the "number 2" when Heuer Fernandes was replaced by Pollersbeck on Matchday 29. From the 30th day of the game, however, Heuer Fernandes received Mickel's bank seat.

National team

Mickel played twice for the German U16 team in March 2005 . Between September and November 2007 he was active in three games for the U19 team . Between September 2008 and May 2009 Mickel ran three times for the U20 selection .
