Jonas Benjamin Chimezie David (born March 8, 2000 in Hamburg ) is a German soccer player who has been playing for Hamburger SV since he was a teenager .

Career

In the club

Jonas David, whose roots in Nigeria are started when Meiendorfer SV playing football and moved in 2013 to the C-youth of Eintracht Norderstedt . There he stood out in the league games against Hamburger SV and moved to the HSV junior performance center for the 2014/15 season .

For the 2018/19 season, David moved up to Christian Titz's first team , under which he had already played in the B1 Juniors (U17) in the B Junior Bundesliga . On matchday 1 he made his debut in the 3-0 defeat of HSV against Holstein Kiel in the 2nd Bundesliga , when he came on as a substitute for David Bates in central defense during the second half . In September 2018 David signed his first professional contract with a term until June 30, 2021. He was unable to prevail among the professionals under Titz and his successor Hannes Wolf . In addition to 2 substitutions in the 2nd Bundesliga, David made 19 appearances (one goal) in the second team in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord . In addition, at the beginning of the season he played once with the A-Juniors (U19), for whom he was last eligible to play this season, in the A-Juniors Bundesliga .

Until the winter break of the 2019/20 season , David was the fifth central defender under the new head coach Dieter Hecking behind Rick van Drongelen , Timo Letschert , Ewerton and Gideon Jung . In addition to a substitution in the 2nd Bundesliga, he played 8 times in the regional league. At the end of January 2020, David moved to the 3rd division on loan to the Würzburger Kickers until the end of the season . Under head coach Michael Schiele , he was used in 5 of 6 games before the season break due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the last 4 games of which instead of the injured Daniel Hägele in central defense alongside captain Sebastian Schuppan for the full season. After playing again after almost two and a half months, David missed the last 9 games due to muscular problems. Without him, the Kickers climbed from 10th to 2nd place and were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga.

For the 2020/21 season , David returned to Hamburger SV, who had again missed promotion to 4th place during his absence. Before the season, he extended his contract until June 30, 2024.

In the national team
