Erich Seckler (born September 26, 1963 in Monheim ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach .

Career

Youth and amateur time

Erich Seckler began playing club football with Sportfreunde Baumberg . In 1981 he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen , where he played for the amateur team for several years. In 1987 he was promoted to the professional squad.

Professional at Bayer Leverkusen

1987/88 season

He made his first game on October 17, 1987 on the 13th match day of the 1987/88 season against KFC Uerdingen 05 , where he played 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw. As a result of this game, Erich Seckler was able to establish himself as a regular player; he made 20 games the rest of the season. This season he also played three times in the UEFA Cup when he played through both games in the semi-finals against Werder Bremen and in the final against Espanyol Barcelona in the second leg, which they won 3-2 on penalties. In the Bundesliga it was enough for eighth place. He made a total of 20 games and scored one goal against FC Schalke 04 (3-2).

1988/89 season

In the 1988/89 season , Seckler made 26 games, and on matchday five he underwent an own goal to make it 2-1 against Hannover 96 . While he was only three games missing in the first half of the season, Erich Seckler was missing five games in the second half. This time too, the Werkself were only eighth in the table . In the DFB Cup, on the other hand, it reached the semi-finals; Seckler played the round of 16 against SV Waldhof Mannheim (5: 2) and the quarter-finals against KFC Uerdingen 05 (2: 0) for 90 minutes each.

1989/90 season

This season Erich Seckler played 20 games and scored one goal in a 1-1 draw against VfB Stuttgart . In the first half of the season he played only nine games, in the second half of the season he played 11th. Bayer 04 finished fifth, which was enough to qualify for the UEFA Cup . On the 22nd matchday he was sent off the field with a red card for the first time in his professional career: In the 2-1 defeat against Karlsruher SC and was only used again on the 27th matchday. In the DFB Cup they were eliminated in the 2nd round against SV Darmstadt 98 ; Seckler came on for Andreas Fischer after 54 minutes .

1990 to 1992

In the last two seasons at Bayer 04 Leverkusen , his playing times have decreased: In the 1990/91 season , Seckler only made 15 games under Jürgen Gelsdorf . He was not used in the DFB Cup. With the 1991/92 season came a new coach, Reinhard Saftig . Under him, Seckler only played five times, and he was always substituted in the final stages. In the DFB-Pokal he achieved his last success with Bayer Leverkusen: the return to the semi-finals, where they only lost on penalties against Borussia Mönchengladbach .

Hertha BSC

For the 1992/93 season he moved to Hertha BSC in the 2nd Bundesliga . But even here he did not manage to assert himself; he made only 7 out of 46 possible games, and he only came to play once in the DFB Cup against SV Meppen (4: 2). At the end of the season, Erich Secker ended his higher-class career.

Coaching career

From the 2007/08 season to 2010 Seckler worked as a trainer at SSV Berghausen.
