Fredi Pankonin

Fredi Pankonin (or Fredy , born February 27, 1927 in Berlin ; † December 2, 2018 ) was a German handball goalkeeper .

Pankonin first played in his home district of Weißensee in Berlin and then, as a commuter between East and West Berlin, as long as that was still possible, at the Weddinger handball club BSC Rehberge and was considered one of the best goalkeepers worldwide in the 1950s. He often played for the (West) Berlin city team in handball.

Pankonin was in the national team from 1951 to 1958 . Pankonin played a total of 17 international matches, of which he played 15 indoors and 2 on the field. He was in the joint squad of the German Handball Federation and the German Handball Association at the World Cup (WM) 1954 (2nd place) and the World Cup 1958 (3rd place).
