Karl Hebel (born May 31, 1923 ) is a former German handball player and handball trainer .

Life

Karl Hebel was a police officer for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg . Since he was interested in handball, he joined the SV Hamburg Police . Since his performance in field handball was so good, he was soon playing in the first team of his club. In the first years after the Second World War , the SV Police Hamburg was one of the top German teams in field handball, which played several times for the German championship in this sport and was German champion in 1951, 1952 and 1953.

Karl Hebel was always a member of this championship team. In 1951, he won the German field handball championship with SV Hamburg Police in the line-up of Hebel, Wolfgang Höhns, Carl Boysen , Herbert Bossens, Otto Maychrzak , Wille Behrens , Karl Heinz Weist, Paul Wanke , Werner Vick , Jürgen Isberg and Heinz Singer .

For this success, he and the German team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Theodor Heuss on December 1, 1951 .

In 1954, Hebel was then used with the German men's national handball team at the handball world championships . With the team consisting of Harry Kamm, Karl Hebel, Herbert Podolske , Fredi Pankonin , Horst Käsler , Wolfgang Schütze, Markus Bernhard, Bernhard Kempa , Heinrich Dahlinger , Otto Maychrzak, Werner Vick , Adolf Giele and Hinrich Schwenker, they fought their way through on 17. January 1954 at the final in Gothenburg after a 17:14 against the Swedish team the 2nd place and won the silver medal.

After the Eimsbüttler TV handball team split from their coach Arnold Achsel after 37 years in 1965 , Karl Hebel took over the vacancy of the coach. Together with him, the ETV women were able to increase their track record to a total of 10 German championship titles in women's handball. After the defeat in the first quarter-final match of the European Indoor Handball Cup in 1967/68 against Žalgiris Kaunas , the ETV parted ways with lever in January 1968 after irreconcilable differences had arisen between him and the players.
