Hinrich Schwenker

Hinrich "Hinni" Schwenker (born July 8, 1934 in Bremen , † April 18, 2005 in Bremen) was a German handball player . He is considered one of the most successful German players of the 1950s and 1960s.

Career

Schwenker played for the Bremen club ATSV habenhausen for over 40 years .

He was appointed to the German national team for the first time at the age of 18 . In his career he played a total of 76 international matches, in which he scored 212 goals. He was part of the joint selection of the German Handball Federation (DHB) of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Handball Association (DHV) of the GDR at the Indoor Handball World Championship (WM) 1954 (2nd place), Indoor Handball World Championship 1958 (3rd place), Field handball world championship 1959 (world champions) and the indoor handball world championship 1961 . With the selection of the DHB he also took part in the indoor handball world championship in 1964 (4th place).

After the end of his playing days, he coached the Werder Bremen handball team, among other things .

His son Uwe Schwenker was also a national handball player.

Honors

In 1959, Schwenker was honored with the silver laurel leaf for winning the world championship . In 2009, ATSV habenhausen renamed its sports hall in Hinni-Schwenker-Halle .
