Markus Bernhard

Markus Bernhard (born February 13, 1921 ; † September 2002 ) was a German national handball and basketball player who competed for the Federal Republic.

Markus Bernhard started his career at MTSV Schwabing . In 1950 he moved to Bayern Munich under Walter Fembeck , with whom he reached fifth place in the top German handball league in 1955. This was the best ranking of the club's men's handball division.

From 1951 to 1958 Bernhard played 37 international matches for the German national handball team , 25 of them on the field and 12 in the hall, the defense specialist scored a total of 29 goals. At the field handball world championships in 1952 and 1955 he won the world championship title with the German team.

For this he was honored with the Silver Laurel Leaf on June 28, 1953.

Also at the indoor handball world championship in 1954 , Markus Bernhard was part of the German team and finished second behind the Swedish team.

In addition to his handball career, Markus Bernhard was also successful as a basketball player. In 1947 and 1949 he won the German championship with MTSV Schwabing, in 1954 and 1955 he won with Bayern Munich . In 1941/42 he played the first two of a total of 22 international matches. Then he came back from 1951 to use in the German national team .
