from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 4th men's field handball world championship took place from June 29 to July 10, 1955 in the Federal Republic of Germany . The host was the International Handball Federation (IHF). The 33 games of the tournament were played at 33 different venues in 32 different municipalities (Oberhausen was represented twice with one game in the Volkspark Stadium in Sterkrade and one in the Niederrhein stadium in the Osterfeld district. Two matches were also held in the area of today's Mönchengladbach , however Rheydt was still independent at the time the game was held). According to the DHB Chronicle Handball '72, "around 50,000 spectators" attended the final at the Rote Erde stadium in Dortmund . There, the selection of the DHB defeated the Swiss team 25:13 (11: 7). In the final eight different German players scored one or more goals, with Bernhard Kempa with seven and Hein Dahlinger with six goals already scoring more than half of the DHB goals. The top scorer of the tournament was Stig Nilsson (Sweden) with 25 goals (out of 45 goals for his team), Bernhard Kempa scored the most goals for the German team with 22 goals.
