World men's field handball championship 1948
The final round of the 2nd men's field handball world championship was held from June 3 to 6, 1948 in France and the Saar region . The actual tournament only included the semifinals, third place play-off and the final. Three of these four games were played in Paris, the semi-finals between France and Denmark in Saarbrücken. Preliminary round and quarter-finals were played in simple home games. Sweden became world champion and won all of its games.
Twelve teams took part - all from Europe: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and Hungary. It was the only World Cup without a team from Germany, since after the Second World War there was still no association that could represent Germany in the IHF. The game was played in a knockout system .
World champions Sweden only played twelve players in the four games, ten of which played all games in full. The line-up in the first three games was identical, in the final Sjunnesson replaced his club-mate Stockenberg. The top scorer was the Swede Sten Akerstedt with 21 goals in front of his compatriot Juthage, who scored 15 goals.
