After the end of the Second World War they were approved by Directive No. 23 of the Allied Control Councilall existing sports clubs dissolved. While the old sports clubs were later permitted in the western zones, the dissolution in the Soviet occupation zone was considered irrevocable. In order to be able to continue the sports traffic there, the formation of loosely organized sports communities (SG) was initially permitted, which were initially only allowed to hold competitions at the local level. A large number of sports associations were founded in Leipzig, with eleven such sports associations participating in the Leipzig soccer championship in 1946/47 alone. This fragmentation meant that in 1948 no Leipzig sports association could qualify for the soccer east zone championship. In order to ensure that a strong team from Leipzig could start for the soccer east zone league planned for the 1949/50 season as the new top division in the SBZ, the Central Sports Association Industrie Leipzig was founded on March 21, 1949 by amalgamating several sports associations. The East Berlin daily newspaperBerliner Zeitung of April 1, 1949 spoke of 18 participating sports communities with a total of 5,000 members in several sports. The most important sports associations involved in the merger included SG Leipzig-Leutzsch, SG Lindenau Hafen , SG Lindenau-Aue, SG Leipzig Mitte and SG Böhlitz-Ehrenberg. Since the cited newspaper article mentioned the participation of several Leipzig companies, it can be assumed that the ZSG had the status of a company sports association (BSG) .

In order to retain the right to start in their leagues for the football teams concerned, they continued to compete under their previous name, with the exception of Leutzsch, as sections of the ZSG. Leipzig champions SG Leipzig-Leutzsch was reinforced by players from the merged SG and played for the Saxon championship under the name ZSG Industrie (3rd place). The reinforcements for the ZSG included the prominent players Heinz Fröhlich and Walter Rose from SG Lindenau-Hafen. At the end of the 1948/49 season, ZSG Industrie was third in the Saxon football championship and thus qualified for the Eastern Zone League. With the player base

Günter Busch (25 games / goals -) - Heinz Pönert 21 / -), Werner Brembach (26 / -) - Gerhard Richter (24 / -), Walter Rose (24/2), Gerhard Polland (23 / -) - Rolf Sommer (25/3), Werner Steuer (23/7), Gerhard Hübler (17/13), Heinz Fröhlich (25/6), Werner Klaus (18/3)

In 1949/50 the ZSG reached eighth place in the zone league among 14 teams. In the point games, coach Fritz Krauss used 24 players, the home games were played in the Leutzscher Georg-Schwarz-Sportpark , an average of 13,155 spectators came to the point games. With the expansion of the players' squad, a second team could be formed in Leutzsch, which as SG Leipzig-Leutzsch took the place of SG Probstheida in the second-class state class things. She ended up on a relegation zone at the end of the season and was disbanded. Ice hockey, figure skating, hockey, athletics, swimming and water polo became known as other sports sections. ZSG Industrie was transformed into BSG Chemie Leipzig on August 30, 1950 after the football season was over .
