Werner Klaus (born December 18, 1928 ) is a former Leipzig soccer player. With BSG Chemie Leipzig , he was GDR soccer champion in 1951.

In 1949, the German Sports Committee in the Soviet occupation zone established the Zone League for cross-border football matches. It was renamed the DS-Liga during its first season, later the name GDR-Oberliga prevailed. One of the teams involved in the 1949/50 season was ZSG Industrie Leipzig , which ended up in 8th place among 14 teams at the end of the season. The 22-year-old attacking player Werner Klaus was part of the regular squad of the Leipzig team. He was used for the first time on the 5th game day in the zone league when he was called up in the encounter ZSG Industrie - Vorwärts Schwerin (4-0) on October 9, 1949 by coach Fritz Krauss as a left winger. After that, Klaus played all the point games up to the 22nd matchday and then only missed the last four games. His main position remained the left attacking side, but he only got three point goals.

From the 1950/51 season, the top division in the GDR DS-Oberliga, which had now been established, was called, and the ZSG Industry competed under the new name BSG Chemie Leipzig. She won the GDR championship at the end of the season, but Klaus was only involved in six point games. For the last time he was used on October 22, 1950 in the match of the 10th matchday chemistry Leipzig - KWU Erfurt (0: 1) as left winger. He had previously played five other league games in which he had scored two more goals.

In November 1950, Klaus' name was mentioned for the last time in connection with Chemie Leipzig, when the league game Chemistry Leipzig - Turbine Halle (3: 5) was canceled because Klaus and other chemistry players could not be fielded due to selection obligations. After a total of 24 matches with five goals for the Leipzig ZSG and the BSG, the trace of Werner Klaus in the GDR football game is lost.
